PV-ESS Microgrid Project of the Lingnan Cable Works

The PV-ESS (Photovoltaic Panels (PV) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS)) Microgrid Project of Lingnan Cable Works is located in the Lingnan Cable Works in Guangzhou. It is equipped with 2 MWh batteries and Zhiguang's two 3-phase PCS (125 kW rated power per unit, 380 V rated voltage). They can achieve the peak load shifting, smooth the output of PV systems and improve the power supply reliability.
As one of large industrial users, the Lingnan Cable Works represents a typical application of such user-side microgrid. Such PV-ESS project has following major functions:
It can achieve the energy optimization and complementation through the optimal configuration of the distributed photovoltaic power generation and energy storage systems;
Most electric power generated by the distributed photovoltaic power generation system is for private use and part for grid, so that the local consumption of photovoltaic energy in the user-side microgrid can be achieved;
It has such functions as off-grid and parallel operation, shifting from scheduled/unscheduled parallel operation to off-grid operation, and from scheduled/unscheduled off-grid operation to parallel operation;
Based on the inverter type, the distributed power supply system with islanding detection capability can achieve the islanding detection in the user-side microgrid;
With protection and control capabilities, it can protect the distributed power connection circuit from failure;
Based on requirements of the user-side microgrid for frequency and voltage, it can adjust the active and reactive power of micro power supply and load to achieve the stable control of the user-side microgrid within the frequency warning area and the emergency area, and to stabilize the frequency and voltage of such user-side microgrid within the normal zone;

It has the two-way measurement and monitoring functions of the user-side microgrid in the distributed power supply system, as well as the information acquisition and monitoring features in the photovoltaic power generation system.
By virtue of its HMI module, it can achieve the human-machine interaction between the user and the integrated terminal, including micro-source/equipment operation state, energy efficiency demonstration, measurement information and failure record. Also, its user can customize operating parameters and review logs through the touch panel.
